    The Meeting of the Joint Committee of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and the Tunisian Ministry of Cultural Affairs in charge of the Celebration of Tunis as 2019 Islamic Culture Capital for the Arab region kicked off today morning, in Tunis. The meeting was presided over by ISESCO Director General, Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, and the Tunisian Minister of Cultural Affairs, Mohamed Zine El Abidine. It was also attended by Kamel Hadj Sassi, Adviser to the Tunisian Prime Minister; Chedly Bouallegue, Governor of Tunis; Souad Abderrahim, Mayor of Tunis; representatives of the Tunisian Ministries of Interior, Foreign Affairs, Tourism, Health, Transport and Communication; Nejib Friji, Director of Middle East and North Africa (MENA) office of the International Peace Institute (IPI); and Mohamed Ghemari, Director of the Secretariat of the Executive Council, General Conference and Specialized Ministerial Conferences of ISESCO.

    The meeting’s agenda features the arrangements for the opening ceremony of the Celebration of Tunis as 2019 Islamic Culture Capital for the Arab region, to be held on 21-22 October 2019, under the high patronage of H.E. Beji Caid Essebsi, President of the Republic of Tunisia. The meeting also examines the organizational and academic aspects relevant to the 11th Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers, in Tunis, to be held on 17-19 December 2019, and the arrangements for holding the 17th Consultative Council for Cultural Development in the Islamic World, in Tunis, 17-18 September 2019.
