    Tunisia President receives ISESCO Director General at Carthage Palace

    The President of the Republic of Tunisia, Mr Béji Caïd Essebssi, today afternoon at Carthage Palace, received Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), who is in a visit to Tunisia to participate in the meeting of the Joint Committee of ISESCO and the Tunisian Ministry of Cultural Affairs in charge of the preparation for the Celebration of Tunis as the Arab region’s Capital of Islamic Culture for 2019.

    During this reception, the President of the Republic voiced his appreciation of ISESCO’s efforts in its fields of competence and the excellent role of its Director General in the promotion, expansion of the scope of joint Islamic action, and consolidation of cooperation relations between Member States, while reaffirming his country’s support to ISESCO and to its noble mission.

    For his part, Dr Altwaijri expressed his thanks and appreciation for the support extended by the Republic of Tunisia to ISESCO and reviewed the different cooperation programmes between ISESCO, the ministries of cultural affairs and education, and the Tunisian National Anti-Corruption Authority (INLUCC) and briefed him on the arrangements underway to hold the Celebration.

    Then, ISESCO Director General presented the President of the Republic with the Celebration’s gold shield, in recognition of his leading role in the promotion of joint Islamic action and kind patronage for the Celebration, and gratitude for his unwavering support to the Organization’s activities.

    The Meeting was attended by Dr Mohamed Zinelabidine, Tunisian Minister of Cultural Affairs; Mr Chawki Tabib, INLUCC President; Ms Selma Elloumi, Minister, Head of the Presidential Cabinet; the Cultural Advisor; the Diplomatic Advisor to the President of the Republic; Mr Nejib Friji, Director of MENA Regional Office of International Peace Institute; and Mr Mohamed Ghemari, Director of the Secretariat of the Executive Council, General Conference and Specialized Ministerial Conferences at ISESCO.
