    Fifth Meeting of Islamic Executive Bureau for the Environment at the level of Ministers Kicks off

    The Fifth Meeting of the Islamic Executive Bureau for the Environment (IEBE) at the level of ministers kicked off today morning at the headquarters of ISESCO with the presence of Dr. Abdelaziz Othman Altwaijri, ISESCO Director General;Dr. Khalil Bin Musleh Al Thaqafi, President of the General Authority of Meteorology and EnvironmentalProtection in the Kingdom Saudi Arabia(GAMEP), Chairman of the Islamic Executive Bureau for the Environment; Ambassador IrfanShaukat, Director General of Science and Technology at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC); IEBE members; a host of interested personalities and representatives of local; Arab and international media outlets.

    At the opening session, ISESCO Director General, IEBE Chairman and Director General of OIC Science and Technology addressed the meeting. Then, the minutes of the coordination meeting between ISESCO and GAMEP were signed.

    It is worth mentioning that ISESCO held this meeting in cooperation with GAMEP and in coordination with OIC. The agenda of the meeting featured examining the report of the Director General on ISESCO’s Efforts in the Fields of Environment and Sustainable Development since the 7th session of the Islamic Conference of Environment Ministers, the “Strategy for the Activation of the Roles of Cultural and Religious Factors in Protecting the Environment and Achieving Sustainable Development in the Islamic World”, the “Guidance Document on Strengthening the Role of Youth and Civil Society in the Protection of the Environment and Achievement of Sustainable Development”, the “Project of the Establishment of the Islamic Network for Environmental Action and Sustainable Development”, the “Progress Report on the Creation of the Islamic Academy for the Environment and Sustainable Development”, the Report on the “Award of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for Environmental Management in the Islamic World”, the “Report on the Programme of the Celebration of the Environmentally Friendly Islamic Capitals”, and “ISESCO Report on the Executive Work Plan for Natural Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in Member States”.

    Yesterday, the Senior Environmental Experts’ Preparatory Meeting, also held at ISESCO headquarters in Rabat, discussed and adopted the documents which will be submitted to the Islamic Executive Bureau for the Environment at the level of ministers.
