Qatar University Press published the first volume of the Encyclopedia of Occidentalism, which is the first encyclopedia in the Islamic world that studies the West. The four-volume encyclopedia was elaborated by the ICESCO Chair for Civilizational Dialogue at Qatar University’s College of Sharia and Islamic Studies (QU-CSIS), with the cooperation and support of the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW) of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), and the Qatari Committee for the Alliance of Civilizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This volume is a general introduction to the encyclopedia, which will eventually encompass twenty (20) volumes. The document highlights the intellectual, scientific, religious, and social aspects of the West, using concepts and terminology relating to civilization, history, ethnicity and politics.
