    ICESCO Takes Part in First International Conference on Teaching Arabic Language and Literature in Malaysia

    The Center of Arabic for Non-Arabic Speakers of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) participated in the First International Conference on Teaching Arabic Language and Literature, which was held by Sultan Azlan Shah University, in Kuala Kangsar, Malaysia, under the theme “Promoting the Teaching of Arabic Language and Literature: Efforts and Outcomes,” sponsored by Office of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) in Malaysia.


    The Conference, which kicked off on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, aims to highlight the efforts, evaluate the experiences of individuals and institutions in teaching Arabic and ways to benefit from them, exchange expertise and experiences, evaluate programmes and applications and review books and curricula in the field of teaching Arabic language and literature.


    Dr. Majdi Haji Ibrahim, Head of the Center of Arabic for Non-Arabic Speakers, represented ICESCO at the Conference, during which he delivered an address on the Organization’s efforts in teaching and disseminating Arabic language, and reviewed ICESCO’s programmes, projects and experience in supporting national projects and international initiatives in the field of teaching and disseminating Arabic language in Member States and non-Member States, mainly the projects of establishing specialized national educational centers, training poles as well as academic and training chairs on Arabic language.


    The Conference’s opening session saw the participation of Dr. Dato Nordin Kardi, Director of Sultan Azlan Shah University, Dr. Mahmoud Ismail Salih, former Secretary General of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Center for Arabic Language Service, and Dr. Hamdi Arslan, Director of Arabic Language Studies and Debate Center in the Republic of Turkey, as well as several representatives of international organizations and centers and a group of researchers and academics from around the world.
