Context
Drawing on its reference documents relevant to the protection of tangible and intangible cultural heritage in the Islamic world, namely the Islamic Declaration on the Protection of Cultural Heritage in the Islamic World. Seeking to implement the resolutions of the Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers and the respective decisions of the Islamic Consultative Council for Cultural Development in the Islamic World, the Islamic World Heritage Committee; ISESCO’s Committee of Archaeology Experts in charge of documenting the excavations undertaken by the Israeli occupation in the vicinity of Al-Aqsa Mosque and their attempts to obliterate and Judaize heritage landmarks in Al-Quds Al-Sharif. Continuing its achievements in leading joint Islamic action in the protection of Islamic cultural heritage and cultural and civilizational identity in the Islamic world, ISESCO will focus its action for 2020-2021 on strengthening the mechanisms of the sustainable protection of heritage in the Islamic world. These include documenting and inscribing on the Islamic World Heritage List of more heritage sites and manifestations of intangible heritage in the Islamic world; upgrading the mechanisms and methods of heritage administration through ICTs use; providing expertise and technical support; and training human resources working in the field of cultural heritage.
